Yates High School Algebra teacher Arthur Hicks is used to sharing resources and lessons plans with fellow math teachers during the school’s weekly Professional Learning Community (PLC) meeting.  But over the past few weeks, the regular Friday collaborative session with his colleagues has gone high-tech, thanks to the efforts of Yates Instructional Tech Edgar Contreras.

“I am trying to make the (PowerUp) HUB a one-stop shop for teachers so they can share and collaborate outside of their normal PLC time,” said Contreras.  “I have created folders for each subject and teachers can post their lesson plans and other content so their colleagues can see.”

“It’s great because we can see what everyone else is doing, and we get ideas and are able to stay on the same page as one another,”said Hicks.

Contreras has also created a PowerUp Café on his campus, where teachers receive training on the HUB and can experiment with some of the HUB’s features—as well as grab a snack or a cup of coffee.

“I want to make it as comfortable as possible for my teachers because we are learning a new tool,” said Contreras. “Sometimes that can be a little intimidating, but so far they are really enjoying the HUB and discovering what it can do.”
