Beware of phishing, other financial-planning scams

2016 June 21
by HISD Communications

The Benefits Department wants district employees and retirees to be aware of recent phishing and other scams by organizations purporting to be financial planning partners.

Because of the Texas Public Information Act, these organizations have access to names and email addresses of current and former employees in order to send marketing or scam emails. Please note that active HISD 403b and 457b Plan approved providers and representatives will be affiliated with a company on the HISD Provider List.

If you receive a suspicious email, do not open any attachments or click on any links. Simply forward the email to HISDspam@houstonisd.org.

In addition, the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) is asking employees and retirees to be aware of imposters visiting homes and asking for information. TRS does not send representatives to homes, and they ask employees to report any organization that asks to meet personally with members. Click here for more information.

Call 713-695-5561 if you have additional questions.
