National Wildlife Federation offers STEM teachers professional development and grant opportunity

The National Wildlife Federation is hosting workshops for both elementary and secondary science and STEM teachers on Sat. Jan 21.  HISD campuses that send a team are eligible for a grant of up to $500 to implement a sustainability project in Spring 2017.

Participants will learn how to use project-based learning to engage students in experiential science education that includes identifying an environmental problem on their campus and designing and implementing a solution to the problem. 

The Elementary workshop will be held at the Elementary Math/Science Summit at the Kingdom Builders Center from 10:50-11:50am and 12-1 p.m. The sessions will consist of Parts 1 & 2 of Student Leadership and Innovation through the Eco-Schools USA Environmental Audit. At least two teachers from each school must attend both sessions to be eligible for the grant. Registration is through OneSourse using Course Number 235004. Space is limited to the first 30 registrants.

The Secondary Schools workshop will be held at Energy Institute High School from 3-5 p.m. Teams of two to three secondary science and math teachers from each campus must attend to be eligible for the $500 sustainability grant. A small stipend will be provided to each secondary school attendee. To register, contact Karen Bishop bishopk@nwf.org. Space is limited to the first 30 registrants.
