New Employee Orientation Date Changes for Campus-Based Staff

2017 September 8
by HISD Communications

To enable campus-based staff to be present during the first week of school, newly hired campus staff who have been previously assigned to the September 12 New Employee Orientation should remain on campus and work with campus leadership to select from one of the following New Employee Orientation dates:

  • September 19, 8:30 AM – 5 PM, registration begins at 8 AM
  • September 26, 8:30 AM – 5 PM, registration begins at 8 AM
  • October 3, 8:30 AM – 5 PM, registration begins at 8 AM (Please see section below regarding Benefits)

After conferring with their campus leadership, campus-based new hires may inform HR of their selected date by completing the following survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HISDneo2017.

New non-campus staff starting work on or before September 12 should still attend New Employee Orientation on September 12. All non-campus staff beginning work after September 12 should attend New Employee Orientation on the date assigned to them by their HR Assistant.

New Employees in the following groups do not attend the Districtwide New Employee Orientation: Associate Teachers, TRS Retirees, Teachers who have completed Teacher Appraisal and Development System (TADS) previously, Business Operations employees – Transportation, Nutrition Services, Construction & Facility Services. These employees are invited to differentiated New Employee Orientations specific to their roles.

Teacher Appraisal and Development System (TADS) training at New Employee Orientation

All teachers must complete the Teacher Appraisal and Development System (TADS) training, offered through New Employee Orientation, within their first 15 instructional days, if they have not previously completed TADS training. Teachers who have completed TADS training do not need to attend New Employee Orientation.

Benefits at New Employee Orientation

As a reminder, new or returning employees have until the first of the month following 30 days of employment to enroll in benefits with HISD. Example: New employees whose start dates were in August must enroll in benefits by September 30, to receive benefits for the remainder of the calendar year. If an employee does not enroll in benefits before this date, they will not be able to enroll in benefits for the calendar year, without a qualifying life changing event. More information may be found at http://hisdbenefits.org/.
