Nearly 40 HISD Facilities Services and Fleet managers gathered Wednesday for training designed to strengthen their leadership skills and teach them how to better coach and mentor their own employees.

The training focused on four key areas — work order processes, effective communication, safety and security, and project request processes.

After a general welcome and introduction by Facilities and Fleet Services Officer Alishia Jolivette and Facilities Finance and Accountability Senior Manager Kendrick Solomon, employees were split into four groups and led to different classroom areas for workshop sessions led by Facilities Services general managers.

“The goal for us is to grow additional leaders,” HISD Facilities and Fleet Services Officer Alishia Jolivette said.  “It’s up to those that we are coaching up to carry the torch and continue on.”

Jolivette stressed to employees the importance of the day’s training and the value of sharing information to strengthen the team.

“We are all leaders,” Jolivette said. “It’s about taking information and putting it into our toolbox to share with others to grow as additional leaders.”

“Communication is key, without it we don’t exist. It’s all about how we communicate, and it’s up to us to pick each other up,” Jolivette added.

Prior to the trainings, Jolivette took a moment to recognize employees for their years of service, which ranged from one year to more than 30.

“These are our experts. This is the district. This is our knowledge,” Jolivette said. “Make sure you partner with these experts.”

Customer Care and Operations Senior Manager German Enamorado, whose department focuses mainly on the work force process, said he hopes the training was well-received and that managers share the knowledge with their teams when they get back to their officers.

“Everything is moving towards technology,” Enamorado said, mentioning that his work will soon be completed via tablets. “We want to practice, see the change, and move towards that.”
