Give me a “V,” give me an “O,” give me a “T,” give me an “E”!

HISD cheerleaders have come up with an exciting and creative way to encourage voters to go to the polls early.

Cheerleading teams from Worthing , Yates, Lamar, Davis, Booker T. Washington and Furr high schools are creating original cheers intended to help get out the vote. Early voting begins Monday, Oct. 22, and runs through Friday, Nov. 2.

Many of the cheerleaders will vote for the first time and want to let their peers know to vote early, to finish the entire ballot, and that Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 6.

Furr High School Principal Bertie Simmons jumped in and actually got involved in her school’s voting cheer.

“I believe this is so important, and we need to catch our newest and potential voters early in their young lives,” Simmons said. “We have registered every student who is eligible … 49 Furr High School students and 18 from REACH Charter School. And all of them will be voting,” she said.
