HISD monitoring severe thunderstorms, possibility of flooding

Due to heavy downpours and thunderstorms across Houston, HISD took precautionary measures to ensure the safety of all students and has cancelled all after-school athletic activities.  HISD has been monitoring the weather and providing updates throughout the day.  A full list of weather-related cancellations is available below: 

Update (Wed., 3:58 p.m.): All AVA Twilight campuses will be releasing students at 6 p.m. today (instead of 8 p.m.) with the exception of AVA Twilight at Sharpstown High School which will be completely cancelled due to a power outage


Update (Wed., 1:43 p.m.):
 All after-school activities, such as tutorials and club meetings, have been cancelled for the following schools:

Jones HS
Booker T. Washington HS
Milby HS
Furr HS
Davis HS
Westbury HS
Reagan HS

 

Update (Wed., 1:08 p.m.): HISD’s Athletics Director reports that all HISD athletic activities are cancelled for tonight.

All games will be played on  Thursday Jan. 10, 2013.  The times and locations will remain the same.  Please see below.

Update (Wed., 12:45 p.m.): HISD Transportation Services  says buses will be running on their regular schedules this afternoon after classes are dismissed.  Although the Houston area has yet to see the extreme rain predicted by forecasters earlier in the day, a flood advisory is still in effect until later this evening.

Update (Wed., 5:45 a.m.): HISD Transportation says all buses will be running as usual this morning on their regular schedules. The Safety Team reported no overnight flooding. A flash flood watch remains in effect through Wednesday evening, according to the National Weather Service.

Update (Tues., 4:42 p.m.): The following parent nights, meetings and workshops have been canceled due to severe weather expected this week.

  • The Advanced Academics Parent Night “GIFTED, LIFTED, & CHALLENGED: Teaching and Reaching Today’s Gifted Students and their Families“, originally scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 9 from 6-8 p.m. in the HISD Board Auditorium, has been rescheduled to February 11, 2013.   • The Teachers Make the Difference training (CU2387), originally scheduled for Jan. 9 at Delmar Stadium has been cancelled. All enrollees have been notified via eTRAIN. Please contact the Curriculum Literacy Team at 713-556-6823 for any additional assistance.
