The Houston Independent School District Transportation Department will be recognized by the City of Houston Mayor’s office this month.  February is national “Love the Bus” month which raises awareness and appreciation for school bus transportation personnel who work to safely transport children to and from school.

In honor of HISD’s Transportation team the Mayor’s office will light the downtown City Hall building yellow Feb. 8-13.

“I’m so proud of the outstanding job that our transportation team has performed, “said HISD Superintendent Terry Grier. “Safety is always at the forefront of everything we do to ensure that students are transported to and from school unharmed.  We are delighted that Mayor Annise Parker is lighting up City Hall in yellow to recognize the HISD Transportation Department.’

HISD is the only school district in the nation listed in “100 Best Fleets” as ranked by Government Fleet Magazine for two consecutive years in a row.   It was also one of only two districts in the nation recently recognized for its safety practices and received an exemplary assessment under the Larson Quality Award from the National Association for Pupil Transportation.

Each day about 875 HISD school buses travel 80,000 miles as they transport 30,000 students to and from school.
