Two HISD High Schools Enter Competition for Tommy Tune Awards

Two Houston ISD schools are competing in the 12th annual Tommy Tune Awards. 

High School for the Performing and Visual Arts students will perform “Avenue Q” and Sam Houston Math, Science & Technology Center students will perform “Seussical the Musical.”

Tommy Tune, a Lamar HS alumnus, is a performer, director, and choreographer with more than 50 years of stage experience. The Tommy Tune Awards, which began in 2002, honor students with awards in 15 categories. The winners of the best leading actor and best leading actress will be nominees for the Jimmy Awards at the sixth annual National High School Musical Theater Awards in New York City.

More than 40 other schools from the Houston area are competing. The winners will be announced on April 16, 2014.
