Some campus carnivals give visitors a sneak peek inside magnet programs

Parents considering Parker ES’s music program can see its advanced bands perform Oct. 18

Many HISD schools hold campus carnivals each fall to raise money for various programs and initiatives, but some also offer parents a sneak peek at their magnet programs.

Parker Elementary, which is hosting its annual Fun Fest from 2-6 p.m. on Oct. 18, will give visitors a chance to hear just how outstanding that school’s magnet music program really is, when its advanced and jazz bands greet guests with performances at the festival’s kick-off.

“We also have an open house scheduled for Nov. 6, during Magnet Awareness Week, in which we invite Parker alumni to perform onstage during an ‘Open Mic Night’ while we serve a spaghetti dinner,” said PTO President Autumn Jamison. “What’s great about that one is that since it’s in the evening, it allows entire families to come and see what we have to offer.”

Parker’s 2014 Fun Fest will be the last one held at its traditional location at the back of the campus, as construction on the new facility is expected to have begun on that field next year.
