HISD school named finalist for national urban education award

Sanchez Elementary School is among 22 schools from across the country–and the only one from HISD–selected as a finalist for the National Excellence in Urban Education Award. The school was recognized by the National Center for Urban School Transformation (NCUST) for generating strong test results, high attendance rates, and excellent student behavior among all student demographics.

Beginning in early January, each finalist will receive a site visit from an evaluation team of researchers and practitioners. After the site visits are completed, 10 to 15 award winners will be announced in March. Each winning school will receive $2,500 and be featured at the National Excellence in Urban Education Symposium to be held in Dallas May 20-22, 2015.

NOTE: HISD’s Anderson Elementary School was also identified as a finalist here originally, but after clarification was requested, the NCUST indicated the recognized school was actually the  “Anderson (All STARR) Academy,” which is a part of Aldine ISD. We regret any confusion.
