Deadline to register for free school day SAT administration quickly approaching

Juniors must sign up by April 1 to be able to take the test

Since the spring of 2010, HISD has offered 11th-graders the opportunity to take the SAT, a college entrance exam, at no cost on a normal school day, but students must register by April 1 in order to be eligible to take the test on April 15, 2015.

Students should see their high school counselor to get their free registration voucher and sign up as soon as possible.

“This is a great opportunity for high school juniors to overcome barriers of any kind and focus on taking the SAT,” said Assistant Superintendent for College Readiness Rick Cruz. “We expect more than 9,000 students at all HISD high schools to take advantage of this important step on the path to college.”

The SAT is normally given on a Saturday, which can be a problem for some students due to transportation issues or work obligations.

HISD provides a free online SAT coaching course – PrepMe — valued at up to $500 that is proven to increase students’ scores. It can be accessed through the College Readiness website under the Naviance tab.
