Road construction impacts area around HISD’s central office

Beginning at 9 p.m. on Friday, the West 18th Street exit ramp from I-610 West Loop northbound will be closed. The exit will reopen at 5 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8.

During the closure, motorists will be detoured to the T.C. Jester exit, directed to U-turn and continue on U.S. 290 westbound frontage road to Dacoma, and then turn left to the 290 eastbound frontage to W. 18th.

The closure comes as Texas Department of Transportation crews switch traffic to new pavement on the northbound I-610 West Loop mainlanes between I-10 and 290. Once completed, the contractor will have access to demolish the old northbound mainlanes and work on building the outbound connector from I-10.

Other closures in the surrounding area during this time are as follows:

  • I-610 West Loop northbound mainlanes from I-10 to 290 will have multiple inside lanes closed. Only one outside through lane will be open.
  • I-610 West Loop northbound exit to 290 westbound will be closed. Motorists will be detoured to I-610 North Loop eastbound, exit at Ella and U-turn to I-610 westbound to the 290 westbound connector ramp.
  • The I-610 West Loop northbound entrance ramp from Old Katy Road will be closed permanently beginning at 9 p.m., Friday, July 31. To access the I-610 northbound mainlanes, motorists can travel eastbound on Old Katy Road to Washington Avenue, turn right on I-10 heading westbound to the I-610 northbound connector.
  • On Sunday, Aug. 2, between 7 a.m. to noon, it may be necessary to close the I-610 West Loop northbound mainlanes at I-10 for about 20 minutes. Local law enforcement will provide traffic control assistance.
