Nutrition Services offers up new menu options for 2015-2016 school year

HISD Nutrition Services dietitians and chefs worked over the summer to perfect the new recipes to provide their primary customers with healthy and delicious meals.

The new meals came to the menu only after they were sampled and approved by students through districtwide taste testings conducted by Nutrition Services.

“Their opinion is key,” Dietitian Kassandra Davis said.  “Through our school tasting, we empower them to choose what they’ll be served on the cafeteria line.”

Students will start enjoying the following 21 delicious and healthy items in mid-September:

  1. Turkey meatball sub
  2. BBQ chicken wrap
  3. Cuban chicken wrap
  4. Spicy chicken strip salad
  5. Chili mac
  6. Asian chicken salad
  7. Cajun rice and beans
  8. BBQ chicken thighs
  9. Sloppy Joes
  10. Chicken noodle soup
  11. Spaghetti and meatballs
  12. Fish tacos
  13. Yogurt and granola plate
  14. Spinach side salad
  15. Romaine side salad
  16. Tomato soup
  17. Fresh fruit medley
  18. Tangerines
  19. Jicama
  20. Jalapeno cheddar corn muffin
  21. Cheddar corn muffin

In addition to these items, Nutrition Services will serve up vegetarian entrees on all cafeteria lines, and will emphasize fresh fruits and vegetables and more grab-and-go items to speed up service.
