HISD’s alternative certification program now accepting applications

Effective Teacher Fellowship offers paid training, hands-on support for new teachers

Interested in starting a challenging and rewarding career as a teacher at HISD? The Effective Teacher Fellowship (ETF) is now accepting applications for 2016 and is looking for highly qualified and passionate new educators to help the district produce Global Graduates.

ETF is HISD’s alternative certification program, which provides robust instructional coaching and support. Once accepted into the program, the ETF team helps their teachers find jobs within HISD and provides ongoing support throughout the new teacher’s first year.

In addition to the comprehensive training, ETF teachers earn a teaching salary as they work to earn their Texas teaching certificate.

ETF is looking for teachers who would like to become certified in the four core subjects – math, science, history, and English. HISD currently has a strong need for bilingual, science, mathematics, and secondary English teachers.

To be eligible to apply, applicants must:

  • Have a conferred four-year degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum 2.75 GPA
  • Be able to work in the U.S. legally
