The transportation department recently announced a fitness program called Move It and Lose It, a series of beginner and intermediate courses held throughout the work week at Central Care Integrated Health Services (14087 South Main St, 77085).

Drivers from the Butler and Barnett motor pools now can participate in the one-hour exercise classes, which are offered on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and include line dancing, Zumba, and step aerobics. Healthy snacks, music, games and giveaways will also be provided to participants.

In addition, HISD Transportation has arranged to transport employees to and from their bus motor pool to each course being offered.

“We’re starting the pilot program right now,” said Robert Anderson, Wellness Manager of Central Care Integrated Health Services. “Once we get all four motor pools on board, we’re going to do a challenge per location where we do a group weigh-in to see how many calories and pounds employees can lose per location, then give out prizes and incentives to keep HISD Transportation employees coming in.”

In March, drivers from the Northwest and Central motor pools will also be able to take advantage of the program, which is open to transportation employees and their spouses and continues to add more options such as yoga and childcare services.

“We’re getting there, but it’s been a great turnout so far,” Anderson said.

For anyone not comfortable taking a class, Anderson encourages them to use the facility to walk around and exercise.
