52 schools take on Family Friendly Schools Challenge

The Family and Community Engagement Department (FACE) is welcoming 52 HISD campuses into its Family Friendly Schools Program for the 2016-2017 school year – twice the number of campuses from the previous school year.

Through a series of research-based activities and strategies to expand and build relationships with families, link family events to student learning, build parent capacity and support efforts for parent empowerment, schools have an opportunity to earn a star toward one of three Family Friendly School Certification levels:

  • Bronze: for schools earning 5 stars throughout the 2016-2017 school year
  • Silver: for schools earning 10 stars throughout the 2016-2017 school year
  • Gold: for schools earning 15 stars throughout the 2016-2017 school year

“We are very excited to see our campuses taking on this challenge to continue growing their relationships with families and their communities through building a welcoming and friendly environment,” said Dr. Jorge L. Arredondo, Assistant Superintendent for FACE. “Our common goal is to increase student achievement.  And by supporting our principals, faculty, and staff and empowering our parents, we’ll be a step closer to achieve that goal.”

The Family Friendly Schools Program was launched during the 2015-2016 school year with 26 schools participating in the program. Last year, 12 campuses earned a Gold certification, 8 campuses received Silver certification and 5 campuses obtained Bronze certification for their Family Friendly efforts.

Good luck to all the campuses participating on the 2016-2017 Family Friendly Schools Program.
