Attend a parent information session on HISD’s Gifted and Talented programs

HISD provides two program options for Gifted and Talented (G/T) students – Vanguard Magnet and Vanguard Neighborhood programs. The Vanguard Neighborhood programs are designed to meet the needs of G/T students at the school to which they are zoned, and the Vanguard Magnet program provides an environment where G/T students can work with their peers at a Vanguard Magnet School.

All HISD K-12 schools offer programs designed to meet the needs of G/T students. Both programs provide a differentiated curriculum by modifying the depth, complexity, and pacing of the general school program.

HISD’s Advanced Academics department is offering three parent-information sessions on Gifted and Talented as follows:

5:30 – 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017
Roosevelt Elementary
6700 Fulton St., Houston 77022

5:30 – 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017
Carrillo Elementary
960 South Wayside Dr., Houston 77023

5:30 – 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2017
Windsor Village Elementary
14440 Polo St., Houston 77085

At these sessions, G/T specialists will be on hand to answer all your questions, including:

  • What is Gifted and Talented?
  • Is my child Gifted and Talented?
  • What services does HISD offer for Gifted and Talented students?
  • How do I apply to an HISD Gifted and Talented program?

The sessions are intended for parents who would like to learn more about HISD’s G/T programs, as the G/T department will present an overview of them. Each session will offer the same content. Students are not required to attend, and child care will not be available.
