HISD historical namesakes celebrated at annual Chávez-Huerta Symposium

Chávez High School staff and students celebrated their school’s namesake with their annual Chávez-Huerta Symposium on Saturday, March 25. The Symposium, a combination of multiple events organized in honor of César Chávez and Dolores Huerta, was held in person this year for the first time since its inception in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.

HISD closed March 31 for Chávez-Huerta Day

On Friday, March 31, 2023, all HISD campuses and offices will be closed in observance of Chávez-Huerta Day, a national commemorative holiday aimed to honor labor and civil rights activists César Chávez and Dolores Huerta.

Schools and offices will reopen for normal business on Monday, April 3, 2023.

The HISD Police Department will be patrolling district facilities. Emergencies may be reported by calling 713-892-7777.

HISD to be closed March 13–17 for Spring Break

All HISD campuses and offices will be closed for Spring Break from Monday, March 13, through Friday, March 17, 2023.

Schools and offices will reopen for normal business on Monday, March 20, 2023.

Employees should consult the duty schedules posted here.

The HISD Police Department will be patrolling district facilities all during the break. Emergencies may be reported by calling 713-892-7777.

Law ES student wins 27th annual MLK Oratory Competition

To honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Foley & Lardner LLP hosted the 27th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Oratory Competition at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church on Friday, Jan. 13.

Wheatley HS hosts community fair for MLK Day of Service

MLK Day is not just a national holiday celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. It’s a call to action and the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service. The Wheatley High School community answered that call with a resource fair, food distribution, and garden clean up.
