The annual Holiday Greeting Card Reception is more than just a showcase of student’s creative holiday card art—it’s an event that celebrates togetherness.
“It will be a better holiday because of your artwork,” Superintendent Millard House said to the student winners during Tuesday’s live-stream event.

Gloria Xie, who won in the middle school category in 2014, also claimed that honor this year as a seventh-grader at Pershing Middle School. “I would just like to say thank you to my principal, Ms. (Kim) Heckman, and my teacher, Ms. Perugini, and my parents,” she said.

Designs are also available for purchase by the general public through Friday, Dec. 5
Each winter, HISD sends out holiday greeting cards to hundreds of people and organizations, including school principals, board members, legislators, local leaders, parent groups, and community partners. Since 2003, these cards have featured the artwork of district students, and this year, three designs were chosen to showcase their creative talents.
Every year, HISD students from across the district create original artworks in the hopes of having their design chosen to grace the district’s annual holiday card. This year, Superintendent Terry Grier selected three students’ designs–one from Park Place ES, one from Johnston MS, and one from DeBakey HS. Artwork by more than 30 finalists considered
What: Each year HISD honors the artistic talent of its students by choosing one of their designs for the district’s holiday greeting card. This year more than 30 students from elementary, middle, and high schools were selected as finalists. District officials will reveal on Friday HISD’s 2013 holiday greeting card, selected by Superintendent Terry Grier. The winning student will be on hand for the unveiling and all the finalist holiday cards will be available for purchase.
