HISD announces 2021-2022 Teacher of the Year finalists, Beginning Teacher of the Year winners

Seven educators have been named as HISD’s 2021-2022 Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year finalists, and three teachers have been named the Beginning Teachers of the Year.

The 10 finalists were selected from all 276 schools based on performance and other criteria. Two finalists will be announced as the HISD Teachers of the Year winners for 2021-2022 and will go on to represent the district in Region IV.

HISD educators to ‘pass the cape’ at Friday event

Superhero-themed banquet to honor teacher and principals of the year

HISD will honor its principals and teachers at a superheroes themed Educators of the Year banquet on Friday, May 20, at the Bayou City Event center. In addition to announcing the elementary and secondary 2016 HISD Teachers of the Year from a select group of 12 finalists, the banquet will recognize the 2015 winners as they “pass the cape” to a new group of honorees.

Finalists selected for 2015-2016 Teachers of the Year  

Winners to be announced at May 20 Educators of the Year banquet

HISD has announced the finalists for the district’s Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year. The two winners, which will go on to represent the district in Region 4, will be announced during the Educators of the Year banquet on Friday, May 20. The twelve finalists were selected from all 283 campuses based on performance data and other criteria.

At the elementary level, the six finalists are:

  • Adrienne Glover from Anderson Elementary
  • Maria Godoy from Port Houston Elementary
  • Melissa Martinez from Sherman Elementary
  • Tracy Singleton from Fondren Elementary
  • Hillary Smith from DeAnda Elementary
  • Ciara Sutton-Rivers from Codwell Elementary

At the secondary level, the six finalists are:

  • Christina Carter-Woods from Pershing Middle School
  • Jennifer Chase from the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts
  • Morgan Dewitt from Long Academy
  • Valarie Moore from Gregory Lincoln Education Center
  • Donald Parker from North Houston Early College High School
  • Keavon Runnels from Austin High School

Be sure to help HISD pick the Fan Favorite among the campus-based Teachers of the Year by taking part in our survey. The first round of voting ends at 5 p.m. on May 6. You can vote once per day.

 

Teachers of the Year for 2015 announced at HISD Celebration of Excellence

HISD held its fourth annual Celebration of Excellence at the Hilton Americas Hotel on May 15, 2015, and one of the evening’s most exciting moments came when the district’s Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year were announced.

Robert Uzick, a fourth-grade teacher at Cunningham Elementary School, and Jessica Joseph, a sixth-grade math teacher at Hogg Middle School, have been named the winners of these awards for 2015. Continue reading

KBR to Award the 2013 Science Teachers of the Year

Three HISD science teachers to receive awards of up to $6,000

Three secondary science teachers in the Houston Independent School District will receive the KBR 2013 Teacher of the Year award on Friday.

This annual contest selects science teachers for this award based on their ability to increase student achievement in science and effectively engage students in the classroom, among other criteria.  The winners are awarded $6,000, $4,000 and $2,000 respectively for first, second and third place.

HISD to Announce 2013 Teachers of the Year

Twenty-two elementary and secondary teachers among finalists

Teachers from all 276 HISD schools, including the 22 finalists for the districtwide teacher of the year award, will be at the annual HISD Celebration of Excellence today at the George R. Brown Convention Center.

HISD will announce the two 2013 Teachers of the Year, and each winner will receive $5,000, a plaque, and a custom made ring from Herff Jones Graduation Center. The principals, assistant principals, first-year principal and first-year teachers of the year and employees of the month will also be recognized.

Teachers of the year from all 276 HISD schools will walk the red carpet on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at the annual HISD Celebration of Excellence at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Joining them will be the 22 finalists for the districtwide teacher of the year, along with the beginning teachers of the year, the principals and assistant principals of the year, first-year principals of the year and the employees of the month.

Team HISD Celebration of Excellence honors Teachers of the Year, exceptional employees

HISD is recognizing its most dedicated staff members—including the Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year—at the Team HISD Celebration of Excellence at the Hilton Americas Hotel downtown. The program, which honors the year’s Employee’s of the Month, as well as Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year,  also features KPRC-Channel 2 Chief Meteorologist Frank Billingsley as emcee.
