On the verge of greatness in 2015

2014 December 18
by HISD Communications

Sometime over the next two weeks, as a New Year approaches, it’s human nature to look back on this year and make resolutions for the next.

For us in HISD, the break between semesters of our academic year is the perfect time to reflect, recharge, and resolve to push even harder on our key initiatives.

We’re making strides with our Literacy By 3 work in the classroom and the growing Read Houston Read volunteer program, with the goal of having all students reading on grade level by the end of third grade.

From pre-K through graduation, our youngsters are merging college and career readiness through Linked Learning and a variety of rigorous academic and career programs through which they can graduate with college credits and workforce certifications.

We’re going full-force with our bond program to build and rebuild campuses, and the technology push through PowerUp is transforming learning to make it more personal.

And we’re striving to recruit, develop, and retain the best teachers and leaders through competitive pay, strong support, and leadership opportunities.

Our achievements in 2014 have us poised for greatness, and 2015 will push us even closer to our goals. Thanks for all you do, and have a joyous and safe holiday season!
