Fleet Services employees score in annual competition
The Texas Association of School Bus Technicians (TASBT) held its annual School Bus Technician Texas’ Best competition, and HISD Fleet Operations personnel from different motor pools received honors in two divisions of competition.
The competition measures competencies among peer technicians and inspectors.
“I couldn’t be more proud of the extraordinary individuals we have in our district and department,” said Maintenance and Operations General Manager Nicole Ware Barnett. “This competition shows how skilled and dedicated they are to the safety of our students and our community.”
In the Technicians Division, Mechanic Expert John Cain Jr. and Team Lead Eric Ramirez won first and third place, respectively. They work at Barnett Stadium.
The technician competition is a test of skills and knowledge through a combination of rigorous tests.
In the Inspectors Division, Shared Services Mechanic Expert Arturo Perez took fourth place, while the Central motor pool mechanics Carlos Hernandez and Ruben Gonzales took eighth and ninth place, respectively.
This competition involves a test for student safety in transportation, including a written exam and hands-on event, and inspection of the bus interior, under the hood, and under the chassis.
Each staff member was presented with their TASBT competition certificate that ranked their placement among their peers.
