ELEMENTARY TEACHERS

Elementary Curriculum and Development is launching the first Universal Design for Learning Planning Guide for Reading, Language Arts, and Math, Grades 3-5, beginning with Cycle 1, Unit 1, to be used in conjunction with the Unit Planning Guide. The UDL Guide has been created to assist teachers in planning holistically for all students with an intense focus on closing learning gaps with student special populations. Professional development will be provided for grades 3-5 reading and math teachers on the UDL Guide. Click on this link for sessions and times. The first sessions are on Sept. 8 and 9.

Elementary Math Best Practice: Backwards Planning to Maximize the 5E Math Block
The Elementary Math Team is excited to bring you this engaging math session on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2021. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the 5E math block in the math classroom and engage in content aligned to the HISD elementary curriculum. Learn how to use math resources such as the Scope and Sequence and Unit Planning Guides to backwards plan. We encourage math teachers to register via OneSource #1458084. Elementary Math: New Teacher Cohort 
The Elementary Math Team is excited to bring you this new cohort designed specifically for new math teachers on Monday, Sept. 13, 2021. Participants will meet, collaborate, and grow in a professional learning community that supports growth and development relating to classroom management and organization, mathematics best practices, and content strategies. Participants will engage in activities designed to provide ongoing, engaging, and reflective learning to help build capacity of brand new math teachers (first through third year). HB3 Math Academy for Grade Two: Building Content Capacity Problem Solving, Part 1
The HB3 Math Academy Team is excited see all our grade two math teachers at this session on Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2021. Participants will delve deeper into grade-level specific concepts by exploring strategies that build conceptual thinking and teaching of mathematics. Join us and strengthen content knowledge and instructional delivery by exploring TEKS-specific strategies for upcoming mathematics concepts. We encourage math teachers to register via OneSource #1458033. Early Childhood
EC teachers are invited to enroll in “Establishing Classroom Management Through SEL Structures,” Course #1458003 from 4:00-5:30 p.m. on Sept. 7. Participants will learn the importance of social emotional learning in PreK and strategies to support social development while building a positive and respectful classroom environment.

EC teachers are also invited to enroll in “Introducing Workstations for PreK,” Course #1458004 from 4:00-5:30 p.m. on Sept. 9. Participants will learn how to introduce workstations, add literacy and mathematical opportunities, develop activities based on skills and knowledge, and use data to differentiate them.

Please review the September 2021 CTE Bulletin, Volume I, which has helpful resources for new and returning CTE teachers, including professional learning opportunities. You may request one-on-one CTE instructional support, find online resources and TEKS by CTE cluster, view current  CTE Programs of Study, view an approved list of Industry-Based Certifications, and find a brief tutorial on how to enroll in OneSourceMe Learning.
