Survey reveals most members of Team HISD find value in vaccinations

by HISD Communications

In last week’s edition of eNews, we asked readers how often they took advantage of free vaccines, and the vast majority said they got at least one per year.

Half of all respondents said they would take any vaccination that was offered, regardless of what it was for, and a third said they received at least a flu shot annually.

Another 10 percent said that they got vaccinated sporadically, but that they had done so with more regularity when their children were young. Only one respondent said he or she didn’t get vaccinated, due to lack of confidence that it was effective.

Observed that person wryly, “The last time I got a flu shot, I got the flu.”

HISD will be making free flu vaccinations available to district employees through the end of October. For details and a complete schedule, please see this related posting.

I am glad that HISD offers the flu shot for free. I have always taken it every year and it allows me to save money on having to get it somewhere else like Kroger or Walgreens. As long as HISD continues to offer flu shots I will be in line getting them. So I am thankful to the Benefits department for offering the service. It would be nice too if the Benefits department would research in getting us free or discounted vaccinations for pneumonia and shingles. Those two things are certainly on the rise and it would probably benefit quite few people. Please look into offering those vaccinations.

Preventative care, which includes vaccinations, are currently paid at 100% under HISD medical plans. You can obtain vaccinations at your doctor’s office or at one of the HISD Health and Wellness Centers.
