Transportation Services recognized by national magazine for its innovative programs

HISD’s department of Transportation Services was recently named a recipient of District Administration magazine’s 2014 “Districts of Distinction” award. HISD was recognized for three of its programs, the School Bus Tracker, Safety and Security School Bus Training, and Greening the School Bus Fleet. Out of 130 competitive applicants, the district is one of 49 honorees who have demonstrated innovative and effective new ideas dedicated to educational excellence.

Congratulations also go out this week to:

  • Chief Middle Schools Officer Michael Cardona, who was recognized with the Paul R. Hensarling Distinguished Graduate Student Award by Texas A&M University’s College of Education and Human Development and the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA). Cardona was selected for his focus on student achievement and college and career readiness, which led to an increase in the number of high-school courses being offered for middle-school students in the areas of Algebra I, Geometry, Biology, and Integrated Physics and Chemistry.
