Committee seeks employee input on teacher support, pay

2014 December 4
by HISD Communications

The Professional Educators Compensation and Support Committee (PECAS) is seeking input from district employees around how HISD supports and rewards its teachers.

The committee – which includes teachers, principals, union representatives, and central office staff – will host a town hall meeting from 4 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at the Hattie Mae White Educational Support Center (4400 W. 18th St, 77092). During the meeting, attendees can share their ideas about how HISD should approach three key areas: teacher base pay, bonuses and incentives, and appraisal and development.

PECAS, which was formed earlier in the year, is discussing the best ways HISD can attract and retain highly effective teachers. During the HISD Board of Education’s Jan. 19 retreat, Superintendent Terry Grier will share the committee’s advice on what changes should be made.

I appreciate this opportunity. I will not be able to make the meeting. I teach math but do not teach an EOC class. I would like more of an opportunity for more teachers to earn a bonus. Either way I think we would attract and keep the best teachers if we offered the highest salaries in the state.

I also appreciate this opportunity. I hope to meet and take part in the next meeting.
