Technology solutions architect enjoys ‘being on leading edge’

When William Carter first joined Team HISD as a database administrator back in August of 2000, he wasn’t expecting to stay very long.

“We moved down here from College Station when my wife got accepted into grad school,” he explained. “An opportunity came up at HISD and I took it, but I thought five years was probably my ceiling. I didn’t anticipate the rate of change we go through.”

Carter, who now serves as a technology solutions architect, describes the constant challenge as the best part of his job.

“Most people don’t think of a school district as being on the leading edge of technology,” he said, “but we frequently find ourselves in that position—of doing things other people haven’t done yet, and finding solutions where none existed before. But I enjoy the challenge of being involved in those things.”

Carter officially marked his 15th anniversary with the district on Aug. 2, but many other employees have also marked theirs over the past several weeks (May 17–Aug. 8). See if you know anyone on this list:
