Ed Tech Dept. launches ‘Digital Safety Moments’
Video vignettes designed to assist educators with cyber safety issues
October is national Cyber Security Awareness month, and HISD’s Office of Communications and the district’s Educational Technology Department have joined forces to kick-start the month by launching a new video series called “Digital Safety Moments.”
The short video vignettes are designed to help HISD educators understand the importance of cyber safety, as well as good digital privacy practices, and to pass on that knowledge to their students and families.
The videos are being produced with the support of The Learning Counsel. The first one focuses on mobile applications and the social features that these popular apps provide students. Many allow students to be messaged or contacted by individuals outside their friend network.

A new video will be released every other week on myHISD and in employee enews. The first few will be hosted by Educational Technology Specialist Diana Bidulescu, but teachers and campus technology specialists are encouraged to submit their own ideas and suggestions to Bidulescu by emailing her at rbidules@houstonisd.org.
“We want HISD staff members to share their knowledge, experiences, and best practices when it comes to how they are preparing students for a healthy and safe digital life,” said Bidulescu. “Just email me your ideas, and who knows, you could be featured on camera in the next video.”
