by HISD Communications

HISD administrators, teachers, instructional coaches, and teaching assistants are invited to present at the district’s Third Annual Special Education Conference July 19-21 at Pin Oak Middle School. The theme of this year’s conference is “The Power is in the Design.”

The Office of Special Education is seeking presentations that will demonstrate through the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), how to engage students, how content can be presented in different ways to students, and how to differentiate instruction in ways that students express what they know.

Presentations should focus on one or more of the eight conference learning strands with connections to one or more of TADS components. A session may address multiple learning strands but must have one strand that is clearly the main focus. Learning strands include:

  • Creating a Culture that Engages All Learners
  • Accommodating Students’ Needs
  • Creating a Culture that is Responsive to Diverse Learners
  • Creating Systems for Academic and Behavioral Success
  • Effective Inclusive Supports and Practices
  • Using Technology as a Means of Differentiation
  • Building a Collaborative Performance Culture within UDL Framework
  • Leaders’ Role in Supporting Achievement of Diverse Learners
