Nutrition Services will train its 2,400 employees

Nearly 500 Nutrition Services cafeteria managers had the chance to sample many of the new menu items they’ll be serving to HISD students this year during the department’s annual in-service training. And if their reaction to the new food was any indication, HISD students are in for a treat this school year.

Nutrition Services cafeteria managers had the chance to sample many of the new menu items they’ll be serving to HISD students this year during the department’s annual in-service training.

The managers and team leads gathered at Forest Brook Middle School to learn about Nutrition Services’ latest procedures and policies to ensure they’re providing HISD students with quality, nutritious meals.

Durkee Elementary School Cafeteria Manager Rikesecia Henry said in-service is very informative and refreshes school kitchen knowledge.

“My team and I make the most of this training time,” Henry said. “It prepares us to give students our best.”

But the real treat was the opportunity to taste the new menu items.

“The chicken wings, and the chicken and waffle sandwich are going to be hits with students,” said Food Service Attendant Leticia Guerrero. “Kids are going to love these!”

In-service trainings included updated safety policies and procedures, cooking guidelines, employee benefits, and customer service.

“We are very excited about the coming year and introducing our new customer service model called W.E.S.T.,” said Director of Training Antonia Sandoval. “It stands for Welcoming, Engage, Smile, and Thank you.”

Now that Nutrition Services managers and team leads have received their training, they will return to their campuses and pass that information along to the 2,400 district wide employees.
