Learn more about benefits changes as Annual Enrollment approaches

2016 October 27
by HISD Communications

It’s no surprise that health-care costs have been on the rise for some time. Despite this, the district has toed the line on employee contributions for many years, even lowering them by 20% in 2014, where they have remained.

Before our Annual Enrollment period (Nov. 3-17), there are some changes that you should be aware of before making your benefits elections.

While HISD has increased the amount it contributes to help pay for your benefits, unfortunately keeping employee rates the same for 2017 is simply not possible. To cover our rising claims, we must make changes to our plans and rates, placing our highest priority on providing high-quality care and affordability for all.

These changes include slightly higher rates for our medical-plan options and the elimination of our HealthFund contributions for next year. Rest assured, any money you currently have in your HealthFund account from previous years is still available to help pay for eligible expenses.

There are also changes to our Viverae wellness program, life insurance, personal legal, and disability plans — in some cases, the changes include enhanced coverage and reduced premiums.

For more complete details about these changes, please visit our updated benefits site at hisdbenefits.org, where you can also find new tools to help you understand your options and build a plan that fits your family and your budget.
