Six campuses recognized for inclusivity efforts
Honor is part of HISD’s participation in Inclusive Schools Week
The HISD Office of Special Education Services is partnering with the Inclusive Schools Network to celebrate Inclusive Schools Week Dec 5-9.
Since its inception in 2001, Inclusive Schools Week has celebrated the progress schools have made in providing a supportive and quality education to an increasingly diverse student population, including students who are marginalized due to disability, gender, socio-economic status, cultural heritage, language preference, and other factors
As part of HISD’s celebration, six campuses were recognized for their inclusivity efforts during the district’s Dec. 7 principals’ meeting. The schools honored included Waltrip and Energy Institute high schools, Ortiz Middle School, Wilson Montessori, Travis Elementary, and the MLK Early Childhood Center.
Watch the video below to see firsthand how these campuses are improving the quality and amount of time their students spend in inclusive settings.

Inclusive Schools Week provides an important opportunity for educators, students, and parents to discuss what needs to be done to ensure our schools continue to improve their ability to successfully educate all children. Schools, parents, and community members can take part in Inclusive Schools Week by downloading lesson plans, activities, and resources here. This year’s theme focuses on the concept of being a hero.
