If an HISD school counselor has ever helped you to calm an anxious student, console a grieving child, or help a family in distress, then take a moment to thank him or her. February 6–10 is National School Counseling Week, and the theme this year is “School Counselors: Helping students realize their potential.”

Please join HISD in recognizing the unique contribution to the academic success and personal well-being of our students that district counselors make each and every day. See below for a list of daily activities for both staff and students.

  • Share photos and posts on social media using #NSCW17 and #HISDcounselors.
  • Click here for a pdf that can be printed and posted outside of your office door and/or the main office.
  • Click here for “My School Counselor Helps Me Succeed” stickers.  Use Avery 22830 labels to print and distribute to students to wear.
  • Click here to download an “I heart my school counselor because…”sign. Students can complete this activity and post on a bulletin board around the school.
  • Click here to download an “I love being a school counselor because…” sign.  Counselors can complete and post in their cubicle or outside their office door.
  • School Counselors are invited to attend an HISD School Counselor Appreciation Program on Friday, Feb. 10, at the East Field Office, 1102 Telephone Rd., from 2-4 p.m. Please register in OneSource for this event.

HISD’s Counseling and Student Support Department provides district-wide support and resources for 286 campuses. The department works in collaboration with counselors, registrars, records clerks and other individuals providing counseling, guidance, and student support. Moreover, the department helps families find solutions to vexing real-life problems, and point them toward additional resources that families otherwise might not be aware of. The Counseling and Student Support Department aims to ensure all students gain academic and personal tools to successfully reach their full potential, ultimately resulting in graduation.
