UIL realignment pits some HISD 4A football against out-of-district teams

The University Interscholastic League announced its realignment for 2014-2016 on Monday, and some Houston ISD football teams will now play schools outside the district.

“It’s a new twist for us,” HISD Athletics Director Marmion Dambrino said. “It’s going to be interesting. We’re excited about it. The teams we’re going to be playing are very competitive.”

Here’s a list of the new alignments:

Washington
Wheatley
Navasota (Navasota ISD)
Sealy (Sealy ISD)

Dambrino said that there will be some added transportation costs traveling to La Marque, Navasota and Sealy, but the exact amount has not yet been determined.

The UIL recently created the 6A conference to make room for a retooled Conference 1A (six-man) football for schools with lower enrollment. The realignment moved 3A teams to 4A, 4A teams to 5A and 5A teams to 6A.

HISD teams playing in 5A and 6A will not play teams outside of HISD during the regular season.
