There are many events around Houston your child can attend during spring break to keep their mind active. Many are free, but some of them do have a fee. Check out our list:

Discovery STEM at Discovery Green

A group called Girlstart is leading a variety of STEM-related activities at Discovery Green this week. The events are being held from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday. Here’s the schedule:

  • March 16: Mechanical Engineering Fun, Houston Rockets and Dynamo street team
  • March 17: Slime, Chemical Reactions, Instasnow and a Foam Party
  • March 18: Thing That Fly and More
  • March 19: Gumdrop Dome, Air Mail Challenge, Plastic Rescue Activities, HGO to Go First Songs and Storybook Opera
  • March 20: Astronomy, HGO to Go First Songs and Storybook Opera

Young Writer’s Workshop at Discovery Green

Writers in the Schools hosts the Young Writer’s Workshop Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. The workshop is for students in grades 2-8, and no registration or materials are necessary (materials are provided by Writers in the Schools). It is held at the Houston Public Library Express at Discovery Green.

Children’s Museum of Houston Amazing Immature Spring Break

Experience a ton of fun at the Children’s Museum of Houston all week. There are cool giveaways, contests, performances and a whole lot more. Tickets are $10 per person, but you can get in for free from 8-5 p.m. Thursday for Family Fun Night.

Health & Wellness Week at The Health Museum

Each day, The Health Museum will feature different activities including germs info sessions, ways to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle, CPR training, health screening and more. March 19 is UT Brain Night. Families will be able to see a real brain and ask doctors questions. Admission to the Health Museum is normally $7 for children ages 3-12 and seniors (ages 65+), and $9 for ages 13-64, but you can get in for free from 2-5 p.m. on Thursday and here is a buy one, get one half-off coupon.

Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Value Wednesday

If you want to go to the Rodeo but you’re on a budget, Value Wednesday is for you! Select seats to the rodeo and concert are just $10, but you can get tickets to the livestock show, AGventure, carnival and shopping areas for just $5 for adults. The Kids’ Country Carnival also features $2 games, rides and special food items from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Bayou Bend Collections and Gardens

Bayou Bend Collections and Gardens is offering tours, scavenger hunts, arts and crafts, a colonial campsite and more daily. Admission is free for anyone ages 18 and under, and admission for adults is $10.

Farm to Table Spring Break Celebration

George Ranch Historical Park in Richmond is inviting families to explore the history of food over 100 years. Children will be able to plow, explore a 1860s chuckwagon, learn how food was preserved on an 1890s sharecropper farm, learn the basics of ranching and 1930s cattle production, and explore cooking utensils of the 1930s. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-15, and children ages 4 and under are free. There’s a special chuckwagon historic lunch available for $14 for ages 13+, $11 for ages 5-12 and $4 for children age 4 and under, and reservations are required.
