Stakeholders of North Forest High School had the opportunity at a recent community meeting to hear about design plans for the new high school and the expected construction timeline.

Project architect Wendy Heger presented the design plans and explained renderings of the new building, which will be constructed across the street from the existing school.

“The building was designed to celebrate the students,” Heger said. “We hope this student-centered approach will encourage a sense of pride and ownership in the new campus.”

Preliminary plans for the new 21st century campus include plenty of natural light, flexible learning spaces, a modern dining commons and CTE (career and technical education) spaces. The building will contain glass with open views to the prairie in front and the forest in back. It is the only school in the district with plans for an indoor running track.

“We’re excited about the new school, and all the opportunities that will come with it,” said Principal Richard Fernandez. “I think as more of the construction becomes visible, that excitement will grow even more.”

The construction phase is ramping up this summer and is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2017.

We are coming up in the world. I am a former North Forest teacher and I love the change.
