R. Martinez Elementary School names Coleman-Hernandez new principal

April Coleman-Hernandez has been selected as the new principal of Raul C. Martinez Elementary. Coleman-Hernandez began her teaching career in 1997 at Sharpstown High School. She continued serving the children of HISD as dean of students at Revere MS and Fonville Middle School, and dean of instruction at North Forest High School.

Bullying Prevention Week is Oct. 25-29

As part of National Bullying Prevention Month, HISD is recognizing the week of Oct. 25-29 as Bullying Prevention Week to bring attention to a growing epidemic of bullying and social isolation. The district’s Social and Emotional Learning department (SEL) is working to encourage students and parents to join in the campaign to stop bullying.

Nurses of the Month honored at Sterling HS and Southmayd ES

As the sound of drums reverberated off the walls of the lobby at Sterling Aviation High School, Nurse Veronica Myers instantly knew this wasn’t going to be a typical morning.

As she was cheered on by that school’s cheerleading squad, Myers was surprised with the Secondary Nurse of the Month award for May. With more than 50 nominations from Sterling’s faculty and staff, Myers was a standout nominee for the recognition.
