Employees of the Month honored for ‘Service Excellence’

Five HISD employees were celebrated as March’s Employee of the month for Service Excellence at Hattie Mae White Educational Support Center on Tuesday morning during a special breakfast.

The event, hosted every month by HISD’s Chief Operating Officer Leo Bobadilla, recognizes district employees who go above and beyond to provide exceptional customer service in a safe, courteous, responsive and efficient manner. Pre-bid meeting held for potential subcontractors on Sterling HS bond project

sterling_pre_bidCadence McShane Construction held a pre-bid meeting at Sterling High School on Friday for companies interested in working on the school’s new building project. As part of HISD’s 2012 bond, $72.3 million was allocated to construct a new 21st century campus for Sterling.

More than 80 potential subcontractors attended Friday’s meeting, which was the company’s second and final pre-bid meeting for the Sterling project prior to the October 22 bid deadline.

Businesses learn benefits of becoming M/WBE-certified

workshopwednesday_100114This month’s Workshop Wednesday, hosted by HISD’s Business Assistance Supplier Diversity team, featured helpful tips from business associations that offer certifications to minority- and women-owned business enterprises (M/WBEs).

Attendees received valuable advice and information on the benefits to qualified companies associated with becoming M/WBE certified. Angela Freeman represented the Houston Minority Supplier Development Council (HMSDC) and gave details on the steps and requirements involved.

Business expo provides networking, business opportunities

Supplier DiversityHISD joined hundreds of Houston employers – including big names like Chevron, BBVA Compass, NASA, and the City of Houston – at the George R. Brown Convention Center this week for the Houston Minority Supplier Development Council (HMSDC) Business Expo.

“Energizing the Global Economy!” was the theme of this year’s expo. HMSDC actively involves its members in efforts that will increase and expand business opportunities and business growth for minority business enterprises.

Architects, engineers get tips on submitting bids for 2012 bond work as deadline approaches

More than 100 architects and engineers planning to bid for design work for schools listed in the remaining phases of the HISD 2012 bond program attended a pre-proposal conference this week. The deadline to submit bids for projects in Phase 3 and 4 is scheduled for 2 p.m. on July 8.
