Wheatley HS grad logs 20 years as HISD police officer

Sgt. Aloysius Cook

Sergeant Aloysius Cook has been keeping the halls of HISD schools safe for the past two decades. The Wheatley High School graduate (Class of 1975) started out as a campus officer at Sam Houston High School (now the Sam Houston Math, Science, and Technology Center) and officially marked his 20th anniversary with the district on April 19.

“It’s a rewarding job,” said Sgt. Cook, who was named the HISD Police Department’s Supervisor of the Year in 2012. “(As a field training officer), you get to see the end results of your interactions with fellow officers, and how they use what you’ve taught them.”

Still, says Sgt. Cook, “I enjoyed my interactions with kids the most. The kids we’ve given breaks to sometimes come back and thank you, saying, ‘You changed my life that day,’ or ‘You helped me turn my life around.’ It’s almost enough to make you cry.”
