Medical plan premiums dropping for 2014

Annual enrollment is just around the corner, and we have great news! The Board of Education approved our 2014 Benefits Program, and some really positive changes are on the way.

First, medical plan premiums will be going down in 2014. Way down. As in, employee rates will be 20% less for the Consumer and Open Access plans, whether you have employee-only coverage or your entire family is enrolled.

On top of that, with one exception, rates are going down or staying the same for all of the voluntary plans.

We’re also offering a new and expanded low-cost health plan to replace the FSA + Discount Benefits Plan. This will be a true medical plan at very affordable rates for those who qualify and will meet the Affordable Care Act individual medical coverage requirement starting next year.

How is this possible? Because HISD employees are doing such a good job managing their health care costs. You’re taking the time to understand your benefits and using them for all they’re worth—doing things like choosing generic drugs, using the ER only for emergencies, making smarter service-provider choices, participating in RedBrick Health wellness programs, losing weight, and more.

All of this adds up to healthier employees. It also helps HISD save money on its health plan, and now we’re passing those savings along to you.

Annual enrollment is November 7-21, 2013. Watch for more detailed information, coming soon. And start thinking about what you’re going to do with all the money you’re going to save.
