Curriculum manager named Star Award winner by University of Houston

HISD Secondary Social Studies Curriculum Manager Angela Miller was recently named the sole “dean’s choice” Star Award winner for 2014 by the University of Houston’s College of Education.

Miller, who is the only recipient of the award this year, has served as the project director for multiple Teaching American History grants from the U.S. Department of Education.

  • Diana Morrow, an Advanced Placement literature and language teacher at Davis High School, who was recently selected as one of 170 teachers from five states to be an AP Advocate by the College Board. Read the full story here.
  • Rodriguez Elementary School teacher Sylvia Healy, who was recognized on Nov. 5 by Recipe for Success with the Golden Whisk Award for her faithful implementation of that organization’s Seed-to-Plate education program and her enthusiasm about gardening and nutrition. Healy has been the culinary and gardening teacher at Rodriguez for four years.
  • East Early College High School and the Leland College Preparatory Academy for Young Men, which both received mini-grants for STEM education from ExxonMobil. Read the full story here.
