Teachers encouraged to apply for Data Privacy Symposium
Scholarships available for Sept. 21 symposium in D.C.
HISD educators from all grade levels are encouraged to apply for a scholarship to attend the Student Data Privacy Symposium on Sept. 21,2015,in Washington, D.C. The daylong event will present leading education and privacy experts and in-depth panel discussions on how students data should be collected and used, the overarching value of technology and data used by school districts, the potential impact of proposed legislation, the risks of student data collection, and much more.
“As we continue to digitally transform teaching and learning across the district, teachers must be aware of how to select digital learning tools that provide a safe and effective learning experiences for their students and be ready to talk with students and parents about the responsible use of technology,” said Education Technology Specialist Diana Bidulescu. “Participating in the symposium will help them gather privacy information that they can then share with their campus to support peers in keeping students safe online.”
In addition, here are a few reasons why teachers would want to be a part of the symposium:
- add specific knowledge and practices to their digital citizenship toolbox
- better understand the impact of digital life on their students’ future (digital footprint, legislation, college admission, identity theft, etc.)
- understand how to be proactive rather than reactive in their digital teaching
- participate in conversations with peers from across the country
- share online safety best practices
