Teachers sometimes only have a minute to spare. Soon, that’s all they will need to get a quick introduction to resources available on HISD’s Professional Support and Development website.

Currently in production, this new series of videos, called the “Ronnie Rubric ‘Minute’ Show” will give teachers minute-long overviews of various topics and quick tips for implementing effective practices in their classrooms. The first set of videos will concentrate solely on techniques developed by Teach Like a Champion (TLAC), a program embraced by HISD in 2011. The complete “Ronnie Rubric” series is slated for release throughout the 2015–2016 school year.

The animated videos also guide viewers through the Professional Support and Development website, which contains more than 100 videos that feature HISD teachers and how they are using those techniques in the classroom to help increase student achievement. Topics include:

  • Guided reading
  • Instructional practices
  • Planning guides
  • Literacy routines

“We know teachers have precious little free time, so we wanted to create a resource where they can quickly and easily learn about our online resources,” said Elvira Salazar, senior manager for Design, Media, and Online Learning. “These videos can provide our teachers with a common language around effective teaching strategies that can, in turn, lead to discussion around effective planning and coaching.”
