Change agents will help guide district through SAP upgrade and PeopleSoft migration

Nearly 200 members of Team HISD recently gathered to learn more about their roles on the first HISD Change Agent Network. The group of school-based and district employees were nominated by their principals or direct supervisor to help guide HISD through a large-scale initiative that will improve and upgrade current SAP functionality and also merge the district’s payroll and HR functions from PeopleSoft to SAP. The go-live date for the project is July 2016.

As change agents, the group will provide feedback to SAP project leaders and act as a communications conduit from the district level to individual schools and departments. Each HISD campus and department has been asked to designate one or more employees to serve on the Change Agent Network. The network will meet once a month to collaborate with the SAP Project team and to receive resources, talking points, and tools that they can take back to their respective schools and departments. They have also been tasked with recruiting other change agents.

At the kick-off meeting, change agents were told more about their roles and were personally thanked for their commitment to the project by Chief Financial Officer Ken Huewitt and Chief Information Technology Officer Lenny Schad. The group also took part in a photo shoot allowing them to display their favorite “change quote.”

“We don’t want a group of 15 or 20 people making decisions for 30,000, so that’s why we have created a Change Agent Network,” Schad told the group. “We are calling upon all of you to not only share your insights and feedback with the project team but to keep your co-workers informed about the trainings and new processes that will come along with it.”

“This is something new for us,” Huewitt said. “We want change agents to guide us through this large project which in the end will allow us to develop smarter systems and processes so we can return our focus to where it matters most—the classroom.
