In honor of Digital Learning Day on Feb. 17, HISD has deemed the entire month of February as Digital Learning Month for all K- 12 campuses.

Principals and teachers are encouraged to participate in and promote digital learning by trying out new digital tools and innovative instructional practices. Schools can host a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) day, participate in Genius Hour, Skype in Classroom, or try other new ways to incorporate technology in the classroom.  Schools, teachers, and students can showcase their efforts by sharing pictures and videos on social media using the hashtag, #HISDdigital.

In addition, each campus has been asked to select two students and a teacher to showcase their digital learning projects at the district’s second annual Digital Learning Day Expo.  The expo will be the afternoon of Feb. 11, prior to the board meeting at Hattie Mae White. The goal of the expo is to showcase how students learn digitally to HISD board members, Hattie Mae White employees, community partners, and other district teachers.

Examples of a digital learning project eligible for the expo include, but are not limited to:

  • Student-created video documentary addressing a course topic
  • Digital presentation/product (Prezi, NearPod presentations, flipped lesson, blogs, wikis, Podcasts, ThingLink, or a multi-media tool) that demonstrates student learning
  • E-pub or e-book
  • Student-created game
  • Student-created app

Principals can register their school for the expo by clicking here. The deadline to register is Feb. 5.
