Mading Elementary Principal Nicole Haskins

Nicole Haskins’ school mantra is “from local to global,” which is precisely the kind of leadership needed to help produce Global Graduates.

For her efforts, the Mading Elementary principal was chosen as the recipient of the December 2015 Excellence in Leadership Award.

Haskins’ dual language campus embraces its multiculturalism as each classroom “adopts” a country and spends the school year learning more about it, its citizens, and culture.

“Not only is she waist-deep in dual language at her school, she’s taking it to a whole new level,” said Superintendent Terry Grier during Wednesday’s Professional Learning Series meeting.

Employees appreciate district’s focus on professional development for all

by HISD Communications

HISD places a premium on teacher development, but the district is also enhancing its opportunities for support staff to grow their professional skills as well.

Darlene Wheatley and Keshaun Kierra Heno-Evans were among the 140-plus Team HISD employees who’ve benefitted from these professional development opportunities. They’re appreciative that non-instructional staff have the chance to learn additional skills to help them in their jobs, and both took advantage of the recent Paraprofessionals Forum at Kashmere High School in November.

Annual Policy Update 2015-2016

2015 November 23
by HISD Communications

As a member of Team HISD, you have access to read and review district policies that may affect you. Periodically, district governance is updated to reflect changes in federal and/or state law. The following district governance should be reviewed annually by all employees. Please click here to find the Annual Policy Notification for 2015–2016. Electronic copies of all referenced policies are available by clicking the links, which will take you to a page that will allow you to access a series of documents (i.e., LEGAL, LOCAL, REGULATION, or EXHIBIT).

Because not every employee has access to a computer with an Internet connection, school and department leaders are asked to share the documents with employees who lack electronic access. To assist, we have attached a pdf copy of the document. Hardcopies and CDs are also available for purchase from Administrative Services.

As a reminder, HISD’s governance documents are incorporated into a single online manual called Policy Online. If you have questions or concerns, contact policy.admin@houstonisd.org or call 713-556-6017.
