Preparing for a strong finish to the 2018-2019 school year
Welcome back! I hope our students and staff enjoyed their time off during Spring Break to refresh and recharge for the final months of the school year.
Spring is also a prime time to connect your students with scholarships. The Superintendent’s Office has begun accepting applications for the HISD Superintendent and Board of Education Scholars award. The purpose of the award is to support high school seniors who have exemplified great character by overcoming obstacles in their lives. One senior from each HISD high school will receive either a $2,000 or $5,000 scholarship. I look forward to recognizing these students as they embark on the next phase of their journey. More scholarship opportunities can be found here.
Our final Parent University is right around the corner! Sign up now for the March 28 session, “Getting Your Child Ready for College and Careers.” The workshop will be held at four locations throughout the district: Furr, Northside, Madison and Westside high schools. It’s important that as a district we meet our students’ academic needs, but also support their social and emotional needs. That’s why students who attend sessions at Madison and Furr high schools will have the chance to participate in a prom dress pop-up shop. Students can pick out a gown out for free!
I’d like to close with a bit of motivation as we push ahead toward the end of the school year. This video perfectly captures the mission we have in HISD to put children first and on a path to a successful and bright future. We empower our students to pursue their dreams and to leave us college and career ready. Let’s close out the year strong! #HISDEmpowers
