There were a few common themes during the Team HISD hat presentations at Tuesday’s Central Office Staff Meetings: Dedication. Team Player. Dependable. Trustworthy.
According to the coworkers who nominated them, the four employees recognized with Team HISD hats are shining examples of what the district can accomplish when employees consistently go above and beyond the call of duty.

End-of-year deadlines earlier because of OneSource implementation
Due to the implementation of OneSource, it is critical to the success of data conversion that HISD departments and schools close out as many transactions as possible prior to the go-live date of July 1, 2016. Thus, end-of-year deadlines are earlier this year. In addition, transactional access to SAP may be restricted to support the project implementation.
The last day for shopping carts to be APPROVED is Friday, May 20, 2016. Any outstanding shopping carts past this deadline will be canceled.
The last day for travel requests to be APPROVED is Friday, May 27, 2016. Any outstanding requests past this date will be canceled.
See below for additional deadlines. All deadlines reflect standard close of business at 5 p.m.

All school requests for purchasing after the above deadlines will require emailed approval from the school’s Chief School Officer.

The Warehouse Operations building will be closed at the end of business on Thursday, May 19, in order to conduct its annual physical inventory. The building will re-open for issue of supplies on Friday, May 27.
Any departments that need Warehouse Operations assistance are asked to complete their requests before May 19 to minimize any disruptions.

HISD’s Supplemental Sick Leave Bank (SSLB) program offers participants up to 30 additional leave days in the event of a catastrophic injury or illness, resulting in an extended work absence.
SSLB membership confirmations and enrollment materials have been emailed to eligible employees. Enrollment forms and plan details are also available on the SSLB webpage. Current SSLB participants are automatically re-enrolled in the program.
Eligible employees may enroll or cancel membership for the 2016–2017 school year during the early enrollment period through May 27, 2016. An open enrollment period will also be held in September for employees to enroll or terminate membership. A benefits-concurrent enrollment period will be held in November for enrollment only.

Nadine D’Souza’s dedication to the students and staff at Whidby Elementary has grown stronger in the nearly two decades she as worked with the district, which is why she is our May 2016 Employee of the Month.
D’Souza came to HISD as a parent volunteer in 1999 and was so impressive in her role that she was hired in 2003. During her career, she has she tackled any job on the campus, from office clerk, to assisting the school nurse, to her current position as administrative assistant at Whidby.
Whidby principal Rashonda Griffin notes, “she understands the community, she understands our students. It is difficult to explain everything she does around here.”

Caroline Marney, a special education teacher at Briarmeadow Charter School, recently was named a Teacher of the Month by Telemundo and Chick-fil-A.
Marney was nominated for her dedication to helping her students learn life skills they’ll need in the future as well as providing quality instruction to help them become more independent. That included a recent trip to a grocery store to learn how to shop for food, ordering at a restaurant, and raising money for a class party.
To recognize her outstanding work, Chick-fil-A and Telemundo surprised Marney at her campus with a catered breakfast for her students and recognition during a Telemundo broadcast. You can watch the video by clicking here.

As part of the transition to OneSource, all members of Team HISD need to register in eTRAIN by June 12 for all summer training and professional development from June 1 to August 18, 2016. This includes August pre-service training (August 8-18) and Job-Alike training (August 11 & 17) for teachers as well as any professional development offered during the months of June, July, and August. read more…
