All Houston ISD schools and offices will be open on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26. It is a designated inclement weather make-up day.
If a parent chooses to not to send his or her child to school, HISD will follow the current policies in determining whether that student’s absence is excused or unexcused. You can find more information on the district’s attendance policies here and here.
The Texas Education Agency mandates procedures for setting calendars and for designating and publicizing makeup days, and the public has an extended opportunity in advance of the calendar’s adoption to comment on those days.
The calendar for the current school year, as well as the 2014-2015 calendar, are posted on the HISD website.

I am Andrea Crosby’s mother. She is in Ms. Davis’s class in first grade at Durham Elementary. Most of my family are in the military and I have lost many friends serving for The United States Military. Because people who live in Houston don’t know what to do with winter weather, my daughter is having to to go to school instead of going to honor her Grandparents, fallen aunts, grandfather and great grandfather. She will not be attending school on Monday May 26,2014. People need to aware that if it was not for the past, present and future military personnel America would not be free and our children would not be able to go to school. You people need to look up your family history and may learn that you had family whom has served and lived or served and became POW/MIA or died in the line of duty.
